At Lockrose State School we access sport in several ways. There is daily physical activity. This is in response to the Federal and State government's' insistence of moderate physical activity every day.
During the school year there are several development days. On these days other schools come to us or we go to them. Development officers from various sporting associations come to improve skills and game knowledge. Sports typically are Australian rugby league, aussie rules, hockey, cricket and netball.
We also access local area athletics carnivals and cross-country events.
Swimming lessons are first term with five one hour lessons in Gatton.
There is an emphasis on building social skills and skills which would transfer across a number of sports. Children may also be selected or trialled for many representative teams.
Met West School Sport website offers information on State, Regional and some District events, as well as provides assistance to school personnel, families and students on how to become involved in representative school sport. The website also offers links to other government departments, which assist in such fields as the 'Young Athletes Assistance' program, 'Get Active Queensland' accreditation program and other local sporting events, workshops and seminars.
